FINLAND wins 2008 world cup !In the last race of the year long event Finland consolidated their advantage at Kyalami to win the cup by 15 points. Elias Hirvonen, who in practice had set an overall world record, played it safe to get 2nd place in the Lotus and was backed up by Aleksi Elomaa's 7th in Ferrari and Teemu Vuolle 9th in Brabham to score 18 points which proved more than enough. France, who had Martin Audran take race honors and fastest lap in Lotus and Jpalesi (also Lotus) won the race on 22 points to narrowly beat rival England by 3 points for 2nd place in the cup when the English team's 3rd, 6th and 8th places by James Dayjur (Lotus) John Bradbury (Ferrari) and Tom Goodall (Brabham) only gave 18 points. Surprise finalist Hungary got 4th and 10th places when Gabor Szegletes and Szabolcs Balog drove their Lotus and Brabham to 9 points. |

FINLAND takes solid lead before final race !After a reasonably close standing half-way through the finals, Finland made the decisive move in the important 3rd race outscoring second best team France by 14 points in yesterday's Mexico event thanks to a double Lotus victory by Elias Hirvonen and Aleksi Elomaa with Teemu Vuolle 7th in a Brabham to now lead England by 18 points overall. England's John Bradbury was the last man on the podium with team mate James Dayjur 5th in a Ferrari, but the team was beaten with 1 point by France who got 4th, 6th, 8th and fastest lap by Martin Audran (Lotus), Davy Decorps (Ferrari) and Antoine deMautor (Brabham). Hungary's surprise car selections only got them 3 points when Richard Kiss and Szabolcs Balog got a Cooper and Honda to 9th and 10th. |

EVENTFUL MOSPORT RACE HANDS WC LEAD TO FINLAND !In a race marred by a pile-up at the start, Elias Hirvonen of Finland emerged as winner today in Mosport for the second race of the GPL World Cup Final round. His Lotus lead home the similar cars of Martin Audran (FRA), Gabor Szegletes (HUN), James Dayjur (ENG) and Richard Kiss (HUN). Best of the non-Lotus gang was France's Davy Decorps, who brought his Ferrari to 6th after being delayed in the start crash. Teemu Vuolle (Ferrari) and Juha Halli (BRM) combined with Hirvonen to score 21 pts for Finland, which now gives the lead to the Scandinavians halfway through the Final with 40 pts. England and France trail them by 3 and 5 pts respectively, while Hungary is now some 19 points behind the leader after one of their drivers was unable to attend the Mosport Park race. |

England takes lead after first race in final !Despite Finland shining in qualifying with Riekkinen and Hirvonen 1st and 3rd and France's Martin Audran winning the gripping Eagle race fest race at Spa, it was England who outscored the rest thanks to James Dayjur's 2nd, John Bradbury's 3rd + fastest lap and Nathan Wald (BRM) getting 9th and so winning the world cup opener by 6 points. Finland just managed to edge France for 2nd place with 1 point after all drivers scored in 4th, 5h, 7th and 10th while only 2 drivers were in the points for France this time after their ace Davy Decorps early misfortunes. Hungary did not have a good day on track with technical difficulties and only Gabor Szegletes scoring in 6th. |
